My review:
Have you ever been reading a book and you’re liking the story and characters just fine, and then…WHAM…BAM…the story kicks into high gear and you go from liking it to loving it?!? That’s what happened to me while I was reading The Thrill of It by Lauren Blakely.
Trey and Harley are two very damaged souls looking to break free from their past addictions…in this case the addiction is of the sexual nature. One thing that makes this so interesting is that Harley was a very high priced call girl…who had remained a virgin. Never thought was possible?!? Yeah, me neither but Ms. Blakely pulls it off.
For Harley it was really all about the control and power she had over men who obviously had their own sexual dysfunctions. For Trey it was a way to numb the pain of great losses in his life. His preferences were for older, married women who liked having a skilled boy toy.
They become friends first while attending a group which deals with sexual addictions, but there’s a chemistry and attraction between them from the start. Denying the feelings they have for each other makes for a whole lot of UST for the the characters and the readers. The story really took off for me in a huge way at about the 60% mark, because it was then that they both began acknowledging what it was they really felt. Even though they both felt unworthy of the other they begin to move towards a deeper relationship.
From that point on I couldn’t read fast enough, and I truly enjoyed where the story took me. Trey and Harley have a story worth reading, and I’m recommending you read it to find out why. It’s a romance full of angst, self discovery, and heat.
